My good friend Kayleen ... who 'suffered' my taking nearly 3,800 photos on our recent trip to New Zealand ... send me an email today with this headline and the following story ... is she warning me ... and if so what is the warning ... I could read many things into this:

A woman has died after plunging off a cliff into heavy seas while taking photographs on the coast southeast of Adelaide.

The 30-year-old Victorian woman from Ouyen was standing on the edge of the cliff at Cape Douglas, taking photographs at about 11.30am (CST) on Tuesday when she lost her footing and fell about 50 metres into heavy seas, South Australian police said.

Her body was retrieved about an hour later, police said.

Mount Gambier police are investigating.

Of course if anyone reading this knows the woman please pass on my condolences to her family ... but it is THE way to go if you are a photographer.

:hug:s always

Many many months ago (actually it was May 2009) Jetstar had an amazing special on flights to New Zealand. And since I was able to work some out that coincided with Greg's 60th birthday ... how could I resist. So at the old old age of 59.9 years and 52.5 years respectively, Greg and I are finally going overseas (mind NZ is like visiting a country cousin for Australians).

But we R excited. :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie:

I have 8 gb of cards for my G11 and 4 gb of cards for my 350D (and I'm only taking the Sigma 10-20mm lens for it).

Hopefully this will be enough. I think that allows for 500 shots per day (unless I use RAW which I probably should on the DSLR).

I'll try not to bombard you with the shots of NZ that every tourist does ... but I probably will :giggle:

See you in two weeks time

Brisbane Bungle

4 min read
Sunday 28 February was the public opening of the Clem7 Tunnel - linking the southern side of Brisbane with the northern side without the need to drive thru all the city streets/traffic lights etc ... you get the idea.

To walk thru the tunnel you had to register for free tickets. A friend of a friend got some and we were invited to join them.

The organisers strongly suggested using public transport (eg free buses would be running from selected terminals) to get you to the northern end. (for some reason no foot entry was allowed from the southern end but buses could go thru there :?)

Our group drove to one bus station, caught a bus to the nearest designated terminal and eagerly waited with perhaps a 100 other souls for the free buses (supposed to be every 5 minutes) to start coming. An hour and a half later not one bus had stopped at our terminal and the crowd had swelled to lots of hundreds of grumpy peoples. It was quite dangerous for those at the front as crowd swell could have pushed them (read that as us who were at the front) onto the roadway if a bus ever did come along. (Lots passed us, but of course they were full from other places).

Disappointed we headed back to our cars and enjoyed coffee and cakes in that shopping centre.

Moral of the story ... never believe public transport can be organised for the masses even if they say it has been.

Lots of peoples did get to go thru ... here is the story www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queen…

I've always had a bit of an interest in weird style of Surreal Art.
I recently found these particularly interesting pieces that I  ...
mind you I wouldn't have the foggiest on how to attempt such work ...

All of these are from the group

Counting down to 8 March when we go to New Zealand ... my cameras are also very excited

Week from Hell

6 min read

Do you ever have one of those weeks at work, even if like me and you  your job, that you would be happy to just walk out of the door (nope make that run out of the door). It is a long boring story unless you were there and going mental due to re-timetabling of the whole school and then software conflict which caused more problems.

TGIF is all I can say - very loudly.

Anyway, I've got to say I am rapt with the new bits brought in by dA this week ... obviously the stacking of deviations is something you will love or hate ... I    it

A few months ago I was one of the mean nasty people who slammed a new-comer when, after being on dA for about 5 minutes, he was flogging his other website and his 'user pay' tutorials. Well Matt went on to provide some good free stuff here, and I even ended up purchasing a couple of tutorials myself  and I think I can say after a short while we were on much friendlier terms that our first few conversations.

His latest journal mattlauder.deviantart.com/jour… tells us of his newest website www.rubbingpixels.com/ and I can assure all you out there that he does know his stuff.

I know there are about a g'zillion places to get tutorials, but how often have they promised so much but never delivered in the end. Matt does deliver. Check out his site ... you will become a more informed photographer.

Enough waffle ... here's some good architectural stuff I've found recently
